Overview
Render runs web services, static sites, cron jobs and managed Postgres and Redis-compatible databases, and it is a popular Heroku replacement. Domains, transactional email and messaging come from other providers.
Rimbra runs the same kinds of apps and databases, and adds domain registration, an Email API and a WhatsApp API, so the whole product sits in one workspace.

Which one to choose
Choose Rimbra when
- You want to buy the domain, send email and message users from the same place you deploy.
- You want MySQL managed for you, not only PostgreSQL.
Render may fit better when
- You need background workers, cron jobs or private networking between many services today.
- You need to choose between several regions for your services.
Moving from Render to Rimbra
- 01
Sign up for Rimbra and connect GitHub. Pick the repository you deploy today.
- 02
Rimbra detects the framework and fills in the install, build and start commands. Change them in Settings if yours differ.
- 03
Paste your .env into the project’s Variables. Every line becomes a variable.
- 04
Need a database? Create PostgreSQL, MySQL or Redis in the same workspace and connect it. DATABASE_URL is set for you. Import your data with pg_dump or mysqldump.
- 05
Check the live address at your-project.rimbra.live, then point your domain at Rimbra. HTTPS is issued automatically.
Questions
Is Rimbra a good alternative to Render?
For web apps, APIs and databases, yes, and it adds domains, an Email API and a WhatsApp API. Workers and cron jobs are on Rimbra’s roadmap and not live yet.
How do I move a Render Postgres database to Rimbra?
Create a PostgreSQL database on Rimbra, run pg_dump against your Render database and restore it into Rimbra with psql or pg_restore using the connection URL Rimbra shows.
