Deploy a Next.js app

Deploy a Next.js app from GitHub in about a minute. Rimbra detects Next.js, builds it and gives it a live HTTPS address, with a managed database, your own domain, an Email API and a WhatsApp API in the same account.

Deploy Next.js in six steps

  1. 01

    Push your Next.js project to a GitHub repository.

  2. 02

    Sign in to Rimbra, choose New project and import the repository. Rimbra asks GitHub for access to the repositories you pick.

  3. 03

    Rimbra sees a package.json with next in its dependencies and runs npm run build, then the Next.js server with next start. Change the root directory or the commands in Settings if your project needs it.

  4. 04

    Paste your .env into Variables. Every line becomes a variable, available on the next deploy.

  5. 05

    Deploy. The build log streams line by line, and your app goes live at your-project.rimbra.live (or .xyz or .click, your choice) over HTTPS.

  6. 06

    Optional: buy or connect a domain, and Rimbra points it at your app with HTTPS issued automatically.

What your app needs

One rule for servers: listen on the port in the PORT environment variable. Rimbra sets it and routes your address to it.

package.json
{
  "scripts": {
    "dev": "next dev",
    "build": "next build",
    "start": "next start"
  }
}

Next.js on Rimbra

  • Server components, API routes, server actions and middleware run as they do with next start.
  • Connect a PostgreSQL or MySQL database to the project and DATABASE_URL is set for you, ready for pg, Prisma or Drizzle.
  • Environment variables that start with NEXT_PUBLIC_ are read at build time, so redeploy after changing them.

Questions

Does Rimbra support the Next.js App Router?

Yes. Rimbra builds your app with next build and runs the Next.js server, so the App Router, server components and server actions all work.

Do I need output: standalone?

No. It works with the default output. Standalone also works if you set the start command to node .next/standalone/server.js.

Can I host a Next.js app for free?

Yes. Rimbra’s Free plan needs no card and includes 4 projects, 1 database, 200 build minutes and 50 GB of bandwidth a month, with a free HTTPS address for each project.

Does every push redeploy my Next.js app?

Yes. Every push to your production branch builds a new version. It goes live only when it answers, so visitors never see a broken release, and you can roll back to an earlier build instantly.
